The experience begins early, with a 6:00 AM departure from Bangalore City Centre in a comfortable, air-conditioned group vehicle. As the city gives way to countryside, the 230-kilometer drive to Kanchipuram offers a scenic window into Tamil Nadu’s cultural landscape. Upon reaching Kanchipuram around mid-morning, you’ll check into a heritage-style hotel and enjoy some time to unwind.
After a hearty lunch, the afternoon is dedicated to exploring the sacred heart of Kanchipuram. First, you'll visit the awe-inspiring Sri Ekambaranathar Temple, one of the largest and oldest functioning temples in the world. This grand Shaivite shrine stands as a testament to the spiritual and architectural achievements of early South Indian dynasties. Next, the journey continues to the revered Varadaraja Perumal Temple, a towering example of Vaishnavite devotion and Pallava design. As evening sets in, you'll return to the hotel for a shared dinner and a peaceful overnight stay in Kanchipuram.
Day 2: Saturday, 16 August 2025
After breakfast, the group sets out to explore the coastal heritage town of Mahabalipuram, located just a short drive away. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Mahabalipuram is celebrated for its ancient rock-cut temples and seaside sculptures that date back over 1400 years. The morning will be spent wandering through the Shore Temple complex, admiring the exquisite stone chariots at the Pancha Rathas, and reflecting upon the grand narrative carved into the cliffside at Arjuna’s Penance.
Following a relaxed lunch at a local eatery, the exploration continues with hidden cave temples and sea-facing monuments that embody the artistry and spiritual depth of the Pallava era. As the sun begins to dip, you’ll journey back to Kanchipuram, where a warm dinner and another restful night await.
Day 3: Sunday, 17 August 2025
The final day begins with a leisurely breakfast and checkout from the hotel. The morning is reserved for visiting the incredible Kailasanathar Temple, the oldest surviving temple in Kanchipuram and a masterpiece of Pallava architecture. Here, the temple walls come alive with intricate carvings of Lord Shiva in myriad forms, offering a stunning conclusion to your architectural journey.
Before departure, there’s time for a quiet moment of reflection or perhaps a quick visit to a local silk weaving unit. By 5:00 PM, the group departs for Bangalore, with an expected return to the city by 10:00 PM—bringing to a close a memorable weekend steeped in history, culture, and spiritual discovery.
